United States President Donald Trump on Friday accused the top Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) officials and the US Justice Department of "politicising" a memo on the probe into Russian interference in the US election.
"The top Leadership and Investigators of the FBI and the Justice Department have politicized the sacred investigative process in favor of Democrats and against Republicans - something which would have been unthinkable just a short time ago. Rank & File are great people!", Trump wrote on Twitter.
This comes as Trump plans to allow the release of a classified memo containing alleged surveillance abuses by the FBI, according to a senior administration official.
According to The Hill, the official said Trump will inform the Congress of his decision "probably by tomorrow." The FBI is against the release of the controversial memo.
Once the White House approves the memo's release, it would be up to the Intelligence Committee to decide if it wants to make the memo public or not.
The four-page document has become a flashpoint in a wider battle between the Republicans and Democrats over special counsel Robert Mueller's criminal probe into potential collusion between Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and Russia.
The probe grew out of the FBI's Russia investigation after Trump fired FBI director James Comey and Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from the investigation.
Russia has denied meddling in the election campaign and Trump has called Mueller's probe a "political witch hunt".
