The Jharkhand Police claimed to have arrested two hardcore Naxals allegedly having allegiance to the People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) in Khunti district of South Chotanagpur division.
The police further claimed to have seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition including rifles, bullets and detonators, from their possession.
Holding a press conference here, Khunti Superintendent of Police (SP) Anish Gupta said they carried out the arrest while acting on secret information that in Manahatu forest under the Rania Police Station, a big contingent of PLFI under the leadership of area commander Ganpat Bhuiyan was hatching a conspiracy to execute a major operation.
Following the tip-off, the police conducted the raid and arrested two hard core Naxals - Ramu Singh and Amar Munda - while their accomplices fled the scene taking advantage of dense forest, he said.
According to police, the arrested Naxals have executed many operations and used to collect tax for their organisation.
The Superintendent of Police further said one rifle, 40 detonators, 69 bullets and four mobile phones were seized from their possession.
He added that the detonators were of very high quality which was to be used to harm the police.
