Simao Sabrosa and Nicolas Velez scored two late goals to help NorthEast United clinch their first victory of the Indian Super League (ISL) against Chennaiyin here at Indira Gandhi Stadium on Tuesday.
Both the teams strived hard to take the ball past the goal post during the course of the first half but were unable to do so.
However, towards the end of the game, NorthEast midfielder Sabrosa scored the opening goal for his side in the 90th minute, which was followed by forward Nicolas Velez, to make it 2-0 against Chennai.
The NorthEast will now lock horns with Atletico de Kolkata in another home match on October 23.
