Veteran Australian spinner Brad Hogg has revealed that he practices his leg-spin by bowling 'fruit' in his hotel room.
Hogg may be the first spinner in cricket history to admit he uses apples, oranges, melons or any other round fruit he finds to practise his wrist movement, a quirky practice method which was passed on from legendary Pakistani legspinner Abdul Qadir.
According to News.com.au, Hogg said that Qadir told him that he could practice most of his spin variations during play lunch by throwing some fruit around in his hotel room to practice his 'leggies, toppies, flippers and wrong-uns', which, he claims, have helped him a lot in the middle.
Hogg's admissions about how he practices his left-arm spin are yet another colourful chapter of his cricket journey as he is one of the few current-day professional sportsmen who have had a 'real' job, starting his working life as a postman in Perth.
At age 43, long after most cricketers have given the game away, Hogg looms as a key man for Australia's Twenty20 World Cup campaign in Bangladesh which opens with a clash against Pakistan on Sunday, the report added.
