'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' breaks into US top 10 weekend box office charts

Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani,' which opened in 162 theatres on Friday, earned 1.6 million dollars.

Box-office analyst Paul Dergarabedian told the New York Post that it was very unusual to see a Bollywood film in top 10, asserting that sometimes these movies did crack into the top 20 or top 15 (domestically).

He said that they are usually not released in that many theatres but make a big splash.

The top box office earners this weekend are:

3. 'After Earth' - 27 million dollars

4. 'Epic' - 16.4 million dollars

4. 'Star Trek: Into Darkness' - 16.4 million dollars

6. 'Iron Man 3' - 8 million dollars

7. 'The Great Gatsby' - 6.3 million dollars

8. 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' - 1.6 million dollars
