Datsun GO production starts, will be on sale in March

Datsun has just begun the production of its first model, GO at the Oragadam plant near Chennai. This new hatchback will be manufactured on Line 2 in the Renault-Nissan plant.

The new model heralds the introduction of the Datsun brand in India. The Datsun GO had premiered last July in Delhi and India was the first market where the Datsun brand vehicle made its debut.

The Datsun GO is based on the Nissan Micra platform and is targeting first-time car buyers. The car is designed to off a modern driving experience at an affordable cost as most of the parts in this hatchback are localised.

All the Datsun vehicles will have high localised content and this will help the brand to reduce the cost of its range. The Datsun GO+ MPV will be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo in Delhi. Over 100 local companies will supply components for the Datsun GO.

The basic principles of Datsun cars will be to have cars that are developed, engineered and manufactured locally. The other markets where Datsun will soon make an entry will be Indonesia and Russia. But India is the first market where production has begun already.
