Yes, Volkswagen Beetle has made its way to India and at a bargain basement price i.e. Rs. 28.7 lacs (Ex-showroom, New Delhi). The car’s previous stint in India wasn’t successful and two years after it was discontinued, the German automaker has updated its Halo offering for the 21st century to ensure traction in the market.

Exteriors

The Hitler spawned car continues to flaunt its updated retro-modern design. The aesthetic updates include Bi-Xenon headlights with LED DRLs and static cornering fog lamps. The rear end also features LED taillights and incorporates what seems to be a subtle rendition of the famous ‘Whale Tail’ spoiler.

Interiors:

On the inside, Herbie comes with a Composition Media touchscreen infotainment system that is coupled to a total of 8-speaker. That dashboard features body-coloured colour scheme. One also gets  three ambient lighting options, steering mounted controls, leather wrapped steering wheel, leather seats, rain sensors, automatic headlamps, cruise control and auto start/stop with regenerative braking. So basically, there’s plenty of bang for your buck with this bug.

Powerplant:

Under the hood, the Volkswagen Beetle features a 1.4 liter TSI petrol engine that produces 150PS of power output and 250Nm of torque. The powerplant is coupled to a sublime 7-speed DSG, which helps this car accelerate from 0-100kmph in under 6.7 seconds. These stats outshine those of Beetle’s arch rival in India, the Abarth 595. In comparison to Beetle, Abarth 595 only manages a 0-100kmph acceleration time of 7.6 seconds, even though it produces a superior 162PS of power and 230Nm of torque.

The Verdict:

Considering the exclusivity and the competition Beetle garners in India and the fact that it is Rs. 1.1 lacs cheaper than the Abarth 595, it is possible that the Bug will crush all that lay in its path.
