Funds released under Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanisation (SMAM) during April-Sep 2017 stood at Rs 435.52 crore and this is higher than Rs 355.25 crore released for full year 2016-17. Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanisation (SMAM) was started in the year 2014-15 to promote agricultural mechanization by the ministry of Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
In-fact the ministry of agriculture has increased the allocation for SMAM for the current year 2017-18 by more than two times as compared to Rs 577 crore in the previous year i.e. 2016-17. According to the ministry states such as Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana etc. have achieved good progress in the field of agricultural mechanization by utilizing the allocated fund.
