As many as 50 people were injured when a tour bus overturned on a major highway to east Los Angeles, the most populous city in the US state of California, Thursday morning, authorities said.

The bus rolled over around 10 a.m. local time near Irwindale Avenue along the Foothill Freeway, about 32 km from downtown Los Angeles, reported Xinhua citing Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Six of those who suffered serious injuries were airlifted to trauma centres in nearby areas, but none of them were listed as life-threatening, authorities said.

The bus was heading to a casino in the San Bernardino city at the time of the crash, local media said.
