A rebel of a breakaway faction of Meghalaya's outlawed A'chik National Volunteers Council (ANVC) has been arrested, a BSF official said Wednesday.

Mithun M. Sangma, 27, was nabbed from Borsora area, bordering Bangladesh late Tuesday night, Border Security Force (BSF) spokesman Mahendra Singh said.

"Sangma was major catch for us as he was main person to serve extortion notices to coal dealers in the coal mine areas," he said.

The rebel belonged to ANVC-B, a splinter group of the ANVC, which has been observing a tripartite ceasefire with the central and Meghalaya governments for nine years.
