The Aam Aadmi Party's student wing and the left-wing All India Students Association (AISA) will contest the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections together this year, AAP leader Gopal Rai announced on Wednesday.
Rai said the AAP had decided to form a joint panel of its Chatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) with AISA because it wanted to "eliminate negative politics" from higher education.
"The negative politics which involves colossal amounts of money and muscle power by ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) and NSUI (National Students Union of India) has irked the Delhi University students and staff to an extent that they are fed up," Rai said.
"CYSS and AISA will fight the elections with a focus on positive politics, better education and improved services," he added.
"While AISA will contest the posts of President and Vice President, the CYSS will contest the posts of Secretary and Joint Secretary in all colleges and campus across the city," Rai said.
Talking about the problems raised by Delhi University students, Rai said the demand for "student passes in air-conditioned buses had been approved by the Delhi government and will be implemented in the next one month.
"We are also working on the demand to decrease Metro fares and building a library which the students can access 24 hours," he said.
"Female students have also expressed their concern about security in and around the campus. We will work towards installing CCTV cameras."
