Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad on Wednesday said the country is heading towards dictatorship and that the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is paving the way for the imposition of Emergency.

"Modi is afraid that he would be murdered. It hardly sounds good as he is the Prime Minister. Some rights activists have been arrested for suspected threat to Modi. It is an attack on the people's rights," Lalu Prasad told the media at the airport here with reference to the arrest of five rights activists by Pune police on Tuesday.

The RJD leader alleged that there was "total collapse of law and order" in Bihar. "There is no law and order. It is total anarchy. Hardly a day passes without reports of murder, rape, loot, extortion and kidnapping in the state."

He was on way to Ranchi to surrender in a CBI Special Court on August 30 after his plea for the three-month extension of provisional bail was rejected last week by the Jharkhand High Court. He was directed to surrender by August 30.

The former Chief Minister was given provisional bail on health grounds in May, after remaining in Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi for nearly five months. He is serving jail terms since December 23, 2017, after his conviction in a fodder scam case.

He was convicted in two other such cases in January and March 2018 and awarded 14 years in jail. In 2013, he was convicted in the first fodder scam case and sentenced to five-year jail.

As for his conviction in fodder scam cases, he said that he had full faith in judiciary. "I will get justice one day," he said.
