Veteran actor Anupam Kher is happy to be appointed as the 50/50 champion for gender equality to support UN Women's work.
In 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In doing so, UN Member States took a step in accelerating the Organization's goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women.
The 61-year-old took to Twitter, where he shared some photographs from the event and also a letter from the organisation.
"Happy to be appointed Planet 50/50 Champion for Gender Equality to support UN Women's work on Gender Equality," Anupam tweeted on Saturday morning.
The actor, who is currently here, also met the permanent representative of India to the to the United Nations.
"It was such a pleasure to meet Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin, permanent representative of India to the UN in NY," he added.
