Riding on a dream eight for 15 haul from pacer Stuart Broad, England shot out Australia for a pathetic 60 and continued the dominance with the bat to open up a 214 run lead on day one of a thrilling fourth Ashes Test at Trent Bridge on Thursday.
England finished the action-filled day at 274 for four with Joe Root remaining unconquered on 124 (158b, 19x4, 1x6) after Australia's innings lasted only 18.3 overs in the pre-lunch session.
At stumps, nightwatchman Mark Wood (2 batting) was giving company to Root, who completed his eighth Test hundred.
The high point of the England innings was a 173 run fourth wicket stand between Root and Jonny Bairstow (74; 105b, 12x4) that guided the hosts to the drivers' seat.
Put into bat, Australia, folded up in a shade over 90 minutes, with the highest contribution (14) coming from the extras and nine of the batsmen managing only single digit scores.
Broad Aran through the visitors' innings to celebrate a day he began by claiming his 300th Test victim with the wicket of opener Chris Rogers.
The success off the third ball of the match pumped up Broad and he went on to devour Steven Smith in the same over.
While Mark Wood saw the back of David Warner in the next over to leave Australia tottering at ten for three, Broad struck again to evict Shaun Marsh and Ben Stokes. The tourists were 21 for five.
Clarke (10) gifted his wicket by chasing a wide ball from Broad.
The third Test hero Steven Finn then walloped Peter Nevill, before Starc polished off the tail to finish with his best figures in an innings.
England are 2-1 up in the five-match series.
