Indian shuttler P.V. Sindhu's women's singles preliminary round match of the badminton team event at the 17th Asian Games was suspended for several minutes due to a power outage here Saturday.
Gyeyang Gymnasium, the venue for the badminton, suffered a blackout at 9.45 a.m. (local time) as three matches of the first round of women's badminton team events were being held.
World Championships bronze medal winner and an in-form Sindhu was leading 4-1 against Macau's U Teng Lok when the power failure happened.
Sindhu went on to completely dominate her opponent and beat her 21-8, 21-9 to wrap up her match in 36 minutes.
Other matches between Taiwan and Hong Kong, and Maldives and Indonesia were also suspended after most of the lights and screens went off at the gymnasium.
"The lights turned on after two to three minutes and the matches resumed in five minutes," an official for the events was quoted as saying by the Asian Games official website.
