Hundreds of sportspersons have moved into the Olympic Village that seems to have left behind the problems which generated complaints when it first opened on July 24.

Its doors were officially opened Sunday but on Thursday, the Rio Organising Committee said they had just completed fixing the problems at the Olympic Village, reports Efe.

"I've been here in previous months to train and, well, at the last moment, it seems to work well," Spanish canoeist Maialen Chourraut told Efe.

The delegations of Belarus, Argentina and Australia earlier criticised the poor conditions of the facilities.

The head of Australia's Olympic delegation, Kitty Chiller, said Sunday that her team had identified about 200 problems in their building where Australia occupies 15 floors.

"I heard that there are many problems, like in the bathroom without hot water, or toilets that do not flush," said Taku Murakami, a member of the Japanese gymnastics team.

With so much criticism, the Olympics Organising Committee redoubled efforts to make the village "impeccable".

Murakami said that since his arrival on July 26, many problems have been taken care of and he is confident that the organisation will be able to organise "everything" in the coming days.

The village has 31 buildings with 3,604 apartments for the athletes.
