France's Marion Bartoli claimed her first Grand Slam title by beating Germany's Sabine Lisicki 6-1, 6-4 in the women's singles final Wimbledon Championships here Saturday.
Bartoli, seeded 15th, became the second Frenchwoman after Amelie Mauresmo, who lifted the title in 2006, to win the premier grass court event, reports Xinhua.
The 28-year-old, who lost to Lisicki in their last meeting here in the 2011 Wimbledon quarterfinals, took only 30 minutes to win the first set.
Lisicki, leading Bartoli 3-1 in their four meetings and winning all their last three, seemed to be on her way to slumping in the second set as well, trailing 1-5.
But the German, who beat defending champion Serena Williams and fourth-seed Agnieszka Radwanska on her way to the final, came back strongly, winning three games in a row to close in 4-5.
Bartoli, ranked 24th in the world and beaten finalist here in 2007, did not let the chance slip out of her hands as she regained control in her service game and topped the win with an ace.
