Boca Juniors defeated Velez Sarsfield 2-1 at home, taking them to within two points of first-placed team Newell's Old Boys in the Argentina football league.
The match at La Bombonera Stadium here Sunday, featured the return of former Real Madrid player Fernando Gago, and got off to an exciting start when Boca's Uruguayan Ribair Rodriguez scored a header in the first minute, reports Xinhua.
Velez soon equalised with a goal from forward Ezequiel Rescaldani in the ninth minute, but Boca again took the lead, thanks to a goal by Nicolas Blandi in the 37th minute.
Newell's, who tied 1-1 with Estudiantes de La Plata, still lead the standings.
