Borussia Dortmund chief executive officer (CEO) Hans Joachim Watzke upped the ante on criticisms directed at Pep Guardiola when he recommended that Jurgen Klopp take over as the new manager for Bayern Munich should the current Spanish coach be fired by the Bavarian football club.
Watzke said Klopp would be a good nominee to lead any team and assured that he would go well with Bayern after he successfully led Dortmund for the past six seasons and left the post last season, reports Efe.
The CEO's recommendation comes amid a wave of criticism against the current Bayern coach following the club's defeat at the DFL Super Cup for the third year in a row against Wolfsburg in penalty shootouts.
On the other hand, Guardiola appeared in a tense press conference on Tuesday when questions and criticisms against him were addressed, the most indirect of which included remarks by Lothar Matthaus and Stefan Effenberg, who said that the best coach in the world is Jose Mourinho.
Guardiola dodged questions regarding Manchester City's interest to sign him or renewing his contract with Bayern Munich. However, he defended his countryman Xabi Alonso against criticisms for failing to impress in the clash against Wolfsburg.
Apart from the Super Cup defeat, Guardiola is accused of changing the German identity of the club by signing new players, mostly Spanish and Latin.
