Botswana to play friendly against South Sudan

Botswana, "the Zebras", will play South Sudan in a friendly here March 5, the Botswana Football Association (BFA) confirmed.

This is going to be the maiden appearance of Zebras' new coach Peter Butler. BFA revealed Monday that the friendly match is meant to allow the coach to assess the current squad, reports Xinhua.

BFA Media and Communications Officer Phakamile Kraii said South Sudan had agreed to travel to Botswana for the match to be played at the National Stadium.

Botswana has not played a competitive match since Sep 30, 2013 when they hosted Uganda.

The match turned to be the last match for former coach Stanley Tshosane who was dismissed from his post a month later.

When addressing the local media during his official unveiling last week, new coach Butler had promised to adopt an attacking style of play in a quest to turn around the team's fortunes and bring positive results.

With regards to playing South Sudan, he said he was delighted to have an upcoming friendly soon after his appointment so that he can have a look at the local players.

"I am enjoying my search for players and can assure you that the team I select will endeavour to play attractive football," he said.
