Chess player Yogesh Gautam on Thursday launched a crowd funding campaign to gather money for a Kashmir to Kanyakumari tour aimed at promoting the sport.

Gautam has represented India in more than 40 International Tournaments including Commonwealth Chess Championship, winning several laurels and has planned to undertake the 50,000-kilometre road trip and is seeking supporters through the crowd funding platform https://www.desiredwings.com/drive4thegame.

"In a game of chess, every move has a purpose" said Gautam, in a release.

"The objective of our trip is promoting chess in the interiors of the country and highlighting the support needed for chess at the grassroots level. Another important feature is to educate aspiring chess players about the opportunities in the game," he added.

"Through this crowd funding campaign we wish to raise money for the expenditure involved in travelling. And we are happy that desiredwings.com has extended their support and helping the campaign which aims to bring back the glory of chess in the country."

While supporting the campaign, Bharat Singh, deputy president of the Asian Chess Federation, said in a release, "I would like to support Yogesh and his team, for their passion towards teaching underprivileged the game of chess by driving across the remote areas of the country and thereby uniquely promoting chess at national level."
