The Congress should support the government to pass the Goods and Service Tax (GST) bill as it is the need of the hour, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said on Wednesday.
"The passage of the GST bill is the need of the hour. The Congress party had assured the government that it will get back to it after consultations within the party. Congress now should come forward and support the government to pass the GST," Naidu told reporters outside parliament.
He questioned Congress party's stalling the proceeding of the house over National Herald case.
"Why the Congress is raising the issue in both the houses of parliament as the matter is sub-judice," he said.
He hoped that parliament will function smoothly and the opposition will cooperate as several key legislations are pending before both the houses.
