The BJP can carve a separate identity for itself by encouraging party workers to work for a social cause each year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday said here.

Speaking at the party's national council meet, Modi suggested to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that each year can be "dedicated to an issue about the welfare of the society and not necessarily restricted to politics".

"Every party worker should work on programmes on the social issue for a particular year," he said.

"For instance, one year can be dedicated to energy saving...the next to building toilets in villages...," he said.
