Defence Secretary R.K. Mathur was Friday given the additional charge of secretary DRDO as the term of incumbent secretary Avinash Chander ends Jan 31.
Mathur will hold the charge for three months "or till further orders", the Appointments Committee of Cabinet decided Friday.
The government had Jan 13 announced that Chander's term will expire Jan 31.
Along with being the secretary DRDO, he was also the director general, DRDO and scientific advisor to the defence minister.
Appointments to these two posts have not been announced yet.
Sources said the government wanted to split the posts to ease the work burden.
