Union Minister Smriti Irani on Wednesday attacked the family of Congress President Sonia Gandhi by dubbing it a "family synonymous with graft" and said demonetisation was a tragedy for the family.
"Demonetisation (on November 8, 2016) certainly came as a tragedy for the Gandhis as they have become so identified with corruption and ever since they have been losing one election after another" she quipped at a press conference here.
She expressed her "gratitude" to the people of India for what she claimed was their "wholehearted support" to demonetisation announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Minister for Textiles and Information and Broadcasting said the country's people were with Modi in his war against corruption.
Taking a dig at Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, she said: "When his own party is so unsure about his elevation as the party supremo, it is anybody's guess as to whether the people of Gujarat will trust such a person."
She was referring to the assembly elections to be held in Gujarat in December.
She said the Congress leader was targeting Modi because he was facing a lot of issues within the Congress.
