At least eight people were killed but 12 rescued after a boat capsized Wednesday in Nigeria's largest city Lagos, the country's emergency agency said.
The accident occurred around 6 p.m. when the boat, carrying about 25 passengers, capsized after departing the Ebute Ero jetty in the business hubs on the city's islands, Xinhua quoted Ibrahim Farinloye, spokesperson for the National Emergency Management Agency as saying.
Rescuers rushed to the scene after receiving the report, Farinloye said. "We have recovered eight bodies from the water, 12 have been rescued alive while six others are missing."
According to him, the ill-fated boat owned by Bell Marine services was heading for Majidun area of the state.
