"The Emoji Movie" - a film based on the popular emojis that have become a rage on social media, will release on August 11, 2017.
Sony Pictures Animation won rights in July to the project, based on a pitch by Eric Siegel and Anthony Leondis about the round-headed figures. The duo are co-writing the script with Leondis directing it, reports variety.com.
Leondis is known for directing the short film "Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Masters".
