Swiss tennis player Roger Federer on Wednesday confirmed his participation in the upcoming Montreal Masters, which will take place from August 7-13.

The tournament's organisers said in a statement that the 19-time Grand Slam champion would compete in Montreal for first time since 2011, reports Efe.

"I'm happy to be coming back to Montreal, as I have not had the chance to play there for many years. This 2017 season has been very exciting and I am really looking forward to being back on the court on the ATP Tour," Federer said in the statement.

After a long break in the second half of the last season, the former World No.1 has had great performances this year, winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon titles, as well as Indian Wells, Miami Open and Halle crowns.

This will be the first appearance for Federer in a competitive event since he won his 19th Grand Slam title at the All-England Club, to the detriment of Croatian Marin Cilic.

"We are obviously very happy to announce the return of the great Roger Federer," the Canadian tournament's director said.

The almost 36-year-old Federer will seek his third title at the tournament, following his 2004 and 2006 wins.
