A mortar shell went off accidentally during training in northwestern Bangladesh Wednesday leaving two army personnel and three paramilitary border guards dead and 11 others injured, said a military spokesman.
Shahinul Islam, Bangladesh Army's Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) director, told Xinhua that the accident took place at about noon when paramilitary Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel were undergoing training at a cantonment in Tangail, 92 km northwest of capital Dhaka.
"Two army soldiers and three BGB personnel died on the spot while 11 others were injured," Islam said.
All the injured have already been flown to the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka, he said.
Quoting doctors, Islam said the condition of seven of the injured was critical.
