Foreign Ministry-FICCI conference on energy security on Tuesday

A national conference on India's energy security aiming to bring the discussion on securing India's energy supplies to the forefront will be held here Tuesday.

Organised jointly by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the external affairs ministry, the 3rd National Conference on Energy Security will bring into sharper focus the country's search for securing hydrocarbon assets globally, FICCI said in a statement.

The discussion will also focus on the various economic and political developments across the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa which have very strong implications for India's energy interests, the statement added.

Imports constitute 80 percent of India's oil consumption, while with the economic stabilization of Iraq after the recent political turmoil, it is poised to play a key role in India's oil supply equation, FICCI said.

The conference will also focus on replicating the successful US production of unconventional hydrocarbons like shale oil and shale gas in India, the industry chamber said.

The conference will be inaugurated by External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and Petroleum Minister M. Veerappa Moily will give the valedictory address.
