Two- and three-wheeler maker TVS Motor Company Ltd closed last month with increased sales while car maker Toyota Kirloskar Motor Ltd's sales dipped by six percent.
In a statement issued Sunday, TVS Motor said it sold 155,532 units (two-wheelers - 148,469 units, three-wheelers - 7,063 units) against 154,647 units (two-wheelers - 150,740 units, three-wheelers - 3,907 units) sold in August 2012.
On the other hand, car maker Toyota Kirloskar Motor said it closed August selling 15,201 units down from 16,225 units sold in August 2012.
"With the rupee depreciation and rising inflation, we have increased the prices of Camry Petrol and Fortuner. The prices have been increased by one percent," Sandeep Singh, deputy managing director and chief operating officer, was quoted as saying in the statement.
"The market is still sluggish, however we hope to see the market improve with good monsoons and the upcoming festive season," he added.
