With police unable to crack down on a series of desecrations of Catholic crosses and Hindu idols in Goa, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday said that they had been instructed to contact technology giant Google's mapping service to identify the culprits.
At a press conference at his official residence, he also said that specific attempts are being made to create "some sort of a tension" in the state.
"I have issued directions to the police to use all kinds of methodology, including use of technology like Google Maps. I have also told them to check up whether Google can provide us 24x7 mapping of the state," Parrikar said.
Four Catholic crosses and two Hindu places of worship, including a small temple and an idol of Nandi (Shiva's bull) have been vandalised over the last few days, including one case early on Tuesday.
Parrikar said, at all the incidents, could be a handiwork of one group of miscreants and added that police have been instructed to come down heavily on the culprits.
"(It) Appears from modus operandi that it seems to be done by the same group.
"I have instructed police to come down very heavily on this. This kind of thing will not be tolerated and the culprit, when found, will to face the music of the state," he added.
