Hamas movement welcomed raising the Palestinian flag on the UN headquarters as a non-member observer state.
More efforts have to be exerted to enable the Palestinian people to gain their rights of freedom and self determination, Xinhua quoted Sami Abu Zuhri, Hamas spokesman in Gaza as saying on Saturday.
"Hamas movement welcomes raising the Palestinian flag on the UN headquarters and thanks to all the countries who voted in favour of the bid," said Abu Zuhri.
A total of 119 countries of the UN General Assembly voted in favour of a bid to raise the Palestinian flag on the UN agencies and headquarters as the flag of the non-member observer state of Palestine.
Eight countries voted against the bid, including the US, while 45 countries sustained.
On November 29, 2012, the UN General Assembly had voted in favour of upgrading the Palestinian representation in the UN to a non-member observer state.
