Four buildings at Harvard University were evacuated Monday and police bomb-sniffing dogs arrived at the Cambridge campus to investigate "unconfirmed reports" that explosives had been hidden in the buildings.

No detonations of explosives have been reported, according to Boston.com.

The buildings - the Science Centre, Thayer, Sever and Emerson halls - were ordered to be evacuated in response to information received by police, the university said in a statement posted on its emergency alert site.

"HUPD and Cambridge Police are on the scene," the university said.

"Out of an abundance of caution, the buildings have been evacuated while the report is investigated. Harvard's focus is on the safety of our students, faculty and staff."

Bomb squad officers from the State, Cambridge, Harvard University, Boston and Transit Police departments were on the campus, searching buildings for signs of explosives, Boston.com said citing officials.

Firefighters were also at the scene.

Ben Forman, an employee at the Harvard Book Store on Massachusetts Avenue, told Boston.com that the atmosphere around the Harvard campus was not too panicked as police swept through the yard.
