Himachal Pradesh Friday sought a special financial package from the central government to overcome a debt of a whopping Rs.29,000 crore, a statement said here.

Health Minister Kaul Singh met United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi in Delhi and sought the special package for accelerating development, an official statement said.

He also urged her to revive for the state the industrial package that expired in March 2010 as it would provide employment to youths and would strengthen the economy.

He said that Himachal Pradesh was in a debt of Rs.29,000 crore and that it had to pay an additional Rs.500 crore as allowances to state employees.
