The Delhi High Court would Aug 22 hear the parole plea of Vikas Yadav, who is serving life imprisonment in the Nitish Katara murder case.
Justice Pratibha Rani Tuesday transferred the plea of Yadav, son of politician D.P. Yadav to a division bench which has been hearing the appeals in the case against the sentencing order.
A division bench of Justice Gita Mittal and Justice J.R. Midha would hear the plea on Friday.
Moving the high court, Yadav sought three months' parole on the ground that he has to visit his 93-year-old ailing grandfather.
Yadav pleaded that he has been in jail for the past 12-and-a-half years and his conduct has been good throughout.
The plea stated that his grandfather recently had an angioplasty and he wants to spend time with him to take care of him.
It added that Yadav also wants to challenge in the Supreme Court the high court's decision of upholding his life imprisonment in the murder case and he requires some time to prepare his appeal.
He had approached the Delhi government to grant him parole under the special rights given to prisoners, however, no decision was taken and hence, he approached the high court, said the plea.
On April 2, the high court upheld the verdict of the lower court of awarding life term to Vikas Yadav, his cousin Vishal Yadav and contract killer Sukhdev Pehalwan for abducting and killing business executive Nitish Katara, son of an Indian Administrative Service officer, in February 2002. They killed him as they did not approve of his friendship with their sister Bharti.
