Indian engineering major Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T) has inked an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with French nuclear equipment major AREVA, the Indian company said on Saturday.
In a regulatory filing with BSE, L&T said it has signed an MoU for cooperation to maximise localisation for AREVA's EPR nuclear power plant.
The French company's equipments are to be installed at Jaitapur in Maharashtra.
According to L&T, the MoU represents a major step forward for the company in the field of pressurised water reactor technology.
The agreement throws open the prospect of a partnership between L&T and AREVA in manufacturing nuclear plant equipments like valves, piping, electrical instrumentation and engineering work, the Indian company said.
"Through this partnership, AREVA will transfer technology to utilise the forging capabilities of L&T Special Steels & Heavy Forgings (a joint venture with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd)."
