German football club FC Mainz's midfielder Elkin Soto returned to training on Wednesday after his absence of one year due to a serious knee injury.

The Colombian said he is very happy to train again with his teammates, reports Efe.

Soto, 35, sustained a serious knee injury during his side's match against Hamburg on May 3, 2015.

It was planned that Soto would return to Colombia last summer but he agreed after his injury to renew his contract with Mainz and to be treated in Germany.

Soto hopes to play again this season even for only a few minutes.

Mainz is currently in sixth place in the Bundesliga standings.
