A top ranking Indian Army officer said here Friday that there has been heightened activity across the Line of Control (LoC) indicating guerrillas could be planning a major infiltration bid.

Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh, who heads the Srinagar-based frontline 15 Corps, said: "There is heightened activity on the launch pads across the LoC where top terror commanders have recently visited. We are expecting infiltration attempts in the coming months and we are fully prepared to meet the challenge."

He was speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a passing out parade of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Humhama area of central Badgam district in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Coming months are tough from security point of view. We have terror infrastructure in tact across the LoC (Line of control) and in the hinterland," the top army commander said.

The army officer refused to share the number of guerrillas waiting across the LoC to infiltrate into the Kashmir Valley.

"The number is related to security dynamics and I would not like to share the same with you. But, I must assure you there is perfect synergy between the security forces, especially the intelligence agencies, and we are prepared to face the challenge," he said.

He said there has been snowfall on the LoC, but so far not all of it was covered with snow and there were possibilities of infiltration.
