A man was arrested Thursday by Meghalaya Police for sending a hoax text message that there would be a bomb blast during a meeting in Guwahati where Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi would be present, police said.
"We have arrested Khajin Haloi from Shillong for sending a text message that there would be a bomb blast during one of Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's meetings at Guwahati," East Khasi Hills district police chief Mariahom Kharkrang told journalists.
Haloi, a native from Assam's Nalbari district, allegedly sent the text message Wednesday to Guwahati-based regional news channel Newslive.
"The number was traced to Shillong and we arrested Haloi and seized the mobile phone," Kharkrang said.
The call detail record proved that the person had indeed sent the text message, he said.
