A US-based NRI woman, who had come to Delhi for the treatment of her mother, was arrested Thursday for torturing her maid servant, police said.
The incident took place around a week after the arrest of Bahujan Samaj Party parliamentarian Dhananjay Singh and his dentist wife for torturing their maid servant to death.
Aarti Jain, 45, was arrested from her Mayur Vihar Phase-I residence in east Delhi for torturing her 30-year-old maid Bhagwati Oraon.
"The victim was working at Jain's house for over four months. She was employed through a placement agency," a police officer said.
A neighbour informed police and they raided Jain's house, where the victim was found locked inside a room.
The victim told police she was burnt by her employer with a hot iron several times whenever she demanded her salary.
"The victim would get stale food to eat and was beaten up several times for minor mistakes. There were also some dog bite marks on her body," said the officer.
