A man has been arrested on charges of cheating by impersonating as a Deputy Director in the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), police said on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Vinay Kumar Khatu and a resident of Mumbai, was arrested on Wednesday, Police said.
"His arrest was made following a complaint of an officer of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) at Kotla Mubarakpur Police Station on August 8," Deputy Commissioner of Police Ishwar Singh said.
The officer, in the complaint, alleged that Khatu has been duping people on social media by posing as an official of CVC, Singh said.
Police arrested Khatu from Mumbai on a tip-off and have recovered 106 fake visiting cards, inscribed with the National Emblem including an identity card of the Bar Council.
Khatu is a law graduate and was working as an advocate at Alibag Court in Maharashtra.
He have earlier appeared in civil Services examination but failed to clear it on many attempts, police said.
"He told his relatives and friends that he had cleared civil services exams and posted as Deputy Director in CVC. He also uploaded a fake information on social media with photos," DCP said.
Khatu, married, is a resident of Mumbai's Santacruz East area and operates a property business there.
