Mercury on rise in Delhi, no respite till next week

The mercury crossed 40 degree mark in Delhi, with Wednesday's maximum temperature recorded at 41.9 degrees Celsius, three notches above average, said the Met office, with weather analysts predicting rising heat over the few days till a possible respite around June 26 with pre-monsoon showers.

On Wednesday, at 43.2 degrees, Palam remained the most warm region in the city, while Ayanagar sizzled at 42.2 degrees, Ridge area at 41.8 degrees and Narela at 41.9 degree Celsius.

Nearby Gurugram saw 41 degrees and Faridabad recorded 40.3 degree Celsius.

Wednesday's minimum temperature was 29.8 degree Celsius two notches above the season's average.

According to the weather department, Thursday might see thundery development but that will not help with subsiding heat.

"Thursday's maximum temperature is likely to hover around 43 degrees," an official at India Meteorological Department (IMD) told IANS.

Meanwhile, the air quality in Delhi and surrounding region was moderate.

"Mercury will remain above 40 degrees over the weekend, towards June 26 however Delhi may get some respite with pre-monsoon showers," Mahesh Palawat, director private weather analysis agency Skymet told IANS.

The humidity on Wednesday oscillated between 41 to 57 per cent.

Tuesday's maximum temperature was recorded at 39.8 degree Celsius, a notch above the season's average while the minimum temperature was recorded at 26.5 degrees, a notch below the season's average.
