Modi slams INLD, Chautala

In an onvious reference to INLD leader Om Prakash Chautala, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday said some political leaders in Haryana were displaying photographs showing them in his company to create an impression they knew the prime minister well.

Addressing an election rally here, Modi warned voters to beware of such leaders and their parties.

"In Haryana, some leaders and parties are spreading lies. They are using my past photographs with them to create an impression that they will form the government (in the state) and support my government at the centre," he said.

"My government is functioning with the support of the 125 crore people of this country who voted me to power. I don't need the support of leaders in jail."

Chautala, who is currently out of bail, was convicted in a teachers recruitment scam by a CBI court in New Delhi last year and sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment.

The Indian National Lok Dal has been trying to give an impression that it supports the Modi government.

Haryana's 90-member assembly goes to polls Oct 15 with over 1.62 crore people eligible to vote.

"Some people want to take oath from jail (as Chautala has been telling voters in political rallies). They are planning to spend their life in jail.

"I don't want any support from those indulging in goondagardi and mafia. The BJP only works for development," Modi said, urging voters to bring the BJP to power with majority in the Haryana assembly.
