President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday congratulated Ranil Wickremesinghe on his return to the office of Sri Lankan prime minister, and said bilateral relations will scale new heights under his leadership.
Welcoming Wickremesinghe, who called on him at Rashtrapati Bhavan here, Mukherjee said he was delighted to receive him and hoped that his tenure will be highly successful.
The president said history, culture and geographical proximity have ensured that relations between India and Sri Lanka are "very special".
Wickremesinghe warmly reciprocated the president's sentiments and said he looked forward to close cooperation with India in the days to come.
