Democrats block vote against Iran n-deal in Senate again

The Democrat minority in the US Senate has blocked another Republican-backed resolution against the Iran nuclear deal that needed 60 votes to go through.

While 58 senators voted in favour of the resolution, two less than Thursday's vote on the Iran deal due to abstentions by presidential candidates Rand Paul and Lindsey Graham, 42 senators (all of them Democrats) voted against it on Tuesday, Efe reported.

After a Republican attempt last week to block the deal fell through, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called for another round of voting Tuesday, hoping to convince at least two more Democrats to support the resolution (four Democrats back it) to reach the 60 votes needed to stop the Iran nuclear agreement from taking effect.

The White House campaigned hard in the legislature to convince Congressmen to support the agreement between Iran and the P5+1 group (the US, Britain, Russia, China, France plus Germany) in July.

Lawmakers have until September 17 to evaluate the contents of the accord, but Obama has already warned he would use his veto if Congress passes any legislation to scotch the deal.
