NBA: Detroit Pistons fire coach

NBA team Detroit Pistons have fired head coach Maurice Cheeks.

The 57-year-old NBA coach was sacked Sunday after a 21-29 record, reports Xinhua.

"This was a difficult decision for the organisation to make but we needed to make a change," said Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars.

"We have great respect for Maurice and appreciate his hard work."

The Pistons are currently ranked ninth in the NBA Eastern Conference.
