Union Law and Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad Monday stressed the need to reform the justice delivery system in the country.
"There is a need to expedite the process of justice delivery system," Prasad said in the Lok Sabha during Question Hour.
The minister said: "We need to debate judicial reforms, we need to reform our justice delivery system."
Prasad said he has written to the chief justices of all state high courts asking them to take adequate measures to fill up nearly 4,000 vacancies.
To a question on gram nyayalayas (village courts), he said discussions on these have been given over to the state governments as the experience of these local courts has been mixed.
"Some states have their own structure for gram nyayalayas," he added.
