Srivastava's appointment followed after three students organisations under the banner of Joint Action Committee set September 30 as the deadline to appoint a full-time vice-chancellor.
President Pranab Mukherjee appointed Srivastava, who succeeded officiating vice-chancellor P. Shukla.
