A special court here on Wednesday sent Noida's ex-chief engineer Yadav Singh to 14 days judicial custody.

The court of Special Judge G. Sridevi had extended thrice extended agency custody of Yadav Singh, who was arrested by the CBI on February 3 for allegedly abusing his official position in awarding contracts and causing wrongful loss to the government exchequer.

When he was produced before the court on Wednesday after 13 days in CBI custody, the court sent him to judicial custody and fixed the next hearing for March.

The Central Bureau of Investigation had registered a case on July 30, 2015 against Yadav Singh, the then chief engineer, and other unknown people under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act for alleged corrupt practices in the laying of underground cable worth Rs.9,202 lakh (approx) and other allegations, following the July 16 order of the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court.

Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh Police had registered an FIR on June 12, 2012, alleging he had had entered into criminal conspiracy with unknown private people/firms and awarded various contracts without following the laid down procedures and thereby caused undue pecuniary gain to the tune of crores of rupees to private firms and himself.

The FIR ended in closure and a final report was filed by police in the court of special session judge, Noida in January 2014 and accepted by the court in November 2014.

The CBI had earlier raided 12 places at Noida and Greater Noida which led to recovery of documents of 38 immovable properties/houses at Noida and Agra and other incriminating documents. The agency had earlier arrested then Noida project engineer Ramendra Singh, an associate of Yadav Singh, who was also allegedly involved. He is presently in judicial custody.
